Neild Avenue | The hottest new restaurant in Sydney

INTERIORS

Project: Neild Avenue| Location:Sydney, Australia| ArchitectLazzarini Pickering Architetti

Neild Avenue is an impressive, theatrical space – an old heritage warehouse converted into comfortable booth and table seating, adorned in monochrome tones and untreated wood. Polished concrete floors reflect the bare, simple aesthetic in the barn-like room, while cutlery is stashed in steel table pockets, ready for use. Vivid colour appears in murals, by artist Anthony Lister, the view varies from a rainbow sky to Titian-haired beauties, depending on where you sit.

Australian Carl Pickering, of Rome architectural firm Lazzarini Pickering, is their long-time collaborator and was tasked with bringing the inherent Terzini-Marchetti magic to life, using just two or three materials. “We always believe that the atmosphere should reflect the price range, the food you’re serving, the style of service that you’re getting.” says Terzini.

The menu is described as ‘continental European’: beer-battered mussels, coal-grilled octopus, a whole section devoted to “ancient soups” (such as lamb shoulder) and mains divided into “seafood”, “kebabs”, “birds” and “meat”. Prices range from $11 to $42, with the option of sharing plates or ordering a main to yourself.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic celebrates winning the Australian Open 2012

I posted in the beginning of the Australian Open that Novak Djokovic is unstoppable and that he will win the AO once again – I believed in him! It’s only fair now that I say ‘I told you so!’

Last night in Melbourne Novak Djokovic was just that – unstoppable. He wore down Rafael Nadal in the longest Grand Slam singles final in the history of professional tennis, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 after 5 hours, 53 minutes to claim his third Australian Open title.

The 2012 Australian Open final between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal was one of the greatest matches in tennis history, and it was a spectacular preview for what the remainder of the 2012 tennis season should be like. Showing great sportsmanship and humour despite flogging themselves to near exhaustion, the both gladiators quipped “good morning” to the crowd at the 2am presentation.

“Rafa, you are one of the best players ever. You are one of the most respected players on tour,” Djokovic said.

“We made history tonight. Unfortunately, there couldn’t be two winners tonight.”

Nadal was gracious in gut-wrenching defeat.

“Congratulations to Novak and his team; they deserve it. They are something fantastic,” the world No.2 said.

Nadal also came out a winner after fighting for almost 6 hours – he mentioned “I will never, ever will forget this match. Even if I lost, it was very, very special to me.”

Neither will we Nadal…Neither will we.

Not to rub it in but small Serbia last night also won Gold medal in water polo and Silver in Handball. Well done boys!

Incredible Architecture Fyf Residence by Patterns

ARCHITECTURE

Project: FYF Residence | Architects: Patterns | Location: Rosario, Argentina

FYF Residence can be described as an attempt to deal with the generic and undifferentiated flatness of the [pampas] landscape. The project was conceived as a monolithic solid, a monochrome form only punctuated by subtle inflections that establish a complex physical relationship among the different spaces while maintaining a sense of identity and privacy between them. Specifically, a supple concrete shell constitutes the body of the house. Problematic transitions are registered into the shell through folds and bends. Folds and slits, allow also for conditions of luminosity, ventilation, and view. Moreover, through their shape and disposition, they are means of emphasizing geometry while experientially accentuating the topology of the shell at every local point - PATTERNS

Inspiration | The GLOW

I found this website and I am in love with it. I am absolutely fascinated by the relationship between mothers and their children. Especially young children and babies. I’m not sure there is a bond anything quite like it. Watching a mother interact with her children is unlike anything else. And although I am not a mother, I think the love is unlike anything else.

The Glow is a glimpse into the world of inspiring and fashionable moms. Here you’ll find their styling ideas, go-to gear, multitasking secrets, and enviable decor. Kelly Stuart and editor Violet Gaynor invite us for the day into the homes of a stylish family in the New York City area, highlighting classic décor, mom-style secrets, and adorable kids rooms. This site will be the equivalent for wannabe-moms of what Brides magazine is for girls waiting for that proposal. via Refinery29

“When you’re pregnant, your first inclination is to decorate the baby’s room with little animal prints, but then you realize you’re going to have to change it in five years. It was hard to find kids furniture that wasn’t too babyish, and that fit in with the rest of the apartment. This room will work until he moves out at 18.” This quote is so true <3

So many of my friends are either pregnant or just had a baby – and I have been promising one friend a nursery post. I don’t have any children of my own, but someday I will and I’d love to design a nursery just like these one’s.  Therefore, I’ve rounded up several great inspiration photos for boys & girls. Do you have a baby or toddler, or maybe you’re a mommy-to-be? What color scheme or theme have you gone with for your child’s room?

Soothing Black and White | Apartment Interiors

The rainy season makes the surroundings gloomy. It makes me feel lazy and I just want to stay at home, specifically in my room, laying on bed, under a blanket with my ipad browsing beautiful inspiring photos. I found these beautiful soothing black and white images via Desire to Inspire and I am trying not to think about what is happening outdoors.

Shade of Grey | Interiors

I woke up this morning to the soft sound of rain outside my bedroom window. I’m not going to lie to you: I am actually thoroughly depressed by the rain that has been saturating Sydney for WEEKS now. I mean, helloooooo, weather gods and goddesses! It’s supposed to be SUMMER, for sobbing out loud. With so many shades of gray in the sky on days like this, I decided to do a post on the beauty and simplicity of gray interiors. Grey and all of its many shades can be wonderful, especially in interiors (not outside…since my favorite season is summer)…grey can be used to create elegant, sophisticated, warm and inviting interiors. Here are a few of my most recent favourites….How do you feel about the color gray? Have a fabulous long weekend – Australia Day!
